Concerning Procedures for Redirection of Import Shipments

This section outlines security procedures which are required in the event that redirection of an import shipment from the delivery address indicated on the Air Waybill is desired.

Overview of Procedure


A customer coming directly to a DHL Service Center to pick up an import shipment and a customer changing the delivery address indicated on the Air Waybill to a different address on short notice constitute a “redirection.”

When requesting a change of import shipment destination, etc., please prepare a “Request Form for Cnee Pick Up or Redirection” (hereafter, the Form). The Form can be obtained by downloading the PDF file from this page, or by contacting DHL Customer Service.

1. Submission of the Form


The Form may be submitted via fax or e-mail. If submitted by fax, please send the form signed and sealed. In the case of e-mail, please be advised in advance that we accept only senders’ e-mail addresses where the name of the corporation that is the recipient of the Air Waybill is reflected in the domain name.

Please contact DHL Customer Service when you have completed the form. We will inform you of the location nearest you where your form will be accepted.


2. Presentation of ID upon Handing Over of Shipment


When shipments are handed over to customers, you will be asked to present a photo ID (passport, driver’s license, alien registration card, etc.). When the recipient’s address includes the name of a corporation, you may be asked to present an employee ID card as proof that you are employed with the concerned corporation.
*This step is required every time you pick up a shipment.

The additional procedures below are required in the following cases.
  • In the event that a shipment is to be received by a customer other than the recipient on the Waybill
The customer receiving the shipment must prepare a “Power of Attorney” signed and sealed by the recipient on the Waybill and present it upon receipt of the shipment. The shipment may be received without a seal only in the case of handover of a Power of Attorney to a proxy through the sending of an e-mail from an address with a domain name that indicates the corporation to which the recipient belongs. In that case, please submit a printout of a part of the e-mail requesting entrustment in which the domain name can be confirmed.

Please contact DHL Customer Service when you have completed the form. We will inform you of the location nearest you where your form will be accepted.
  • In the case of requesting an automatic transfer for a certain period of time due to office relocation, etc.

Please also have the Form signed and sealed by the person in charge at the recipient’s company. (When sending via e-mail, even if the Form has not been signed and sealed by the person in charge, the Form will be accepted as long as the domain name contains the name of the corporation and it can be confirmed that the person in charge actually sent the e-mail.)

Application procedures for security will not be required in the following cases.
  • In the event of delays and other incidents due to transportation troubles at DHL (excluding customs clearance or flight delays)
  • The period during which an automatic transfer for a certain period of time has been requested due to office relocation, etc. (However, the request for automatic transfer shall be valid for no more than one year from the date of official relocation.)
  • In the event that daytime deliveries cannot be made due to the delivery address being a personal residence and delivery is redirected to the place of employment of the recipient on the Waybill

The following fees will apply when recipients request redirection of import shipments.

JPY1,080(includes consumption tax of JPY80)/Shipment or JPY108/Kg(includes consumption tax of JPY8) if higher.
(Actual weight or volumetric weight, the higher weight is used to calculate)
